Zimbabwe Teachers Call Strike To Demand A Quadrupling Of Their Salary
Teachers at Zimbabwe’s state-run schools plan to stop working from Feb. 5 to demand a quadrupling of their salaries, their union said.
Talks on increasing monthly pay to $1,733 from $414 had deadlocked by the Jan. 25 deadline, the Zimbabwe Teachers Association, or Zimta, said in a statement.
“Zimta will petition parliament to intervene on the root causes of this dispute,” according to the statement.
