Pictures: Christmas Comes Early For Locals As 400 Buffaloes Drown In River

Hundreds of buffaloes estimated to be at least 400 drowned in the Choebe river on the border between Botswana and Namibia

According to early investigations by the Botswana authorities and eyewitness accounts, the huge herd of buffalo was fleeing from a pride of lions when it ran into the river. According to reports, the Buffaloes got stuck because the river bank on the other side was too steep which resulted in the buffaloes panicking and stampeding. Locals who live near the river took most of the buffalo meat after the lions had finished eating. The authorities are reported to have granted them permission to eat the meat.
