Zanu-PF Won 51 Council Seats Unopposed, MDC Alliance Failed To Field Candidates In 92 Wards

51 Zanu-PF local authority candidates were declared Councillors unopposed after MDC Alliance and other political parties failed to field candidates.

MDC Alliance failed to field candidates in 92 wards where other political parties managed to submit names of candidates. The Nelson Chamisa led coalition fielded more than five double candidates in some wards, while at least 15 independent candidates won in the local authority elections.

These results are contained in a list published by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) on Thursday.

In Mashonaland Central Province Zanu-PF won 19 seats uncontested. In Midlands Province Zanu-PF had 13 candidates uncontested. MDC Alliance failed to field candidates in Chitungwiza municipality in Ward Three and Four. MDC Alliance fielded double candidates in areas such as Marondera municipality (Ward10) and Chegutu municipality (Ward Three).

The Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T won two wards in Nkayi rural district council (Ward 28) and Makoni rural district council ward 15. Zanu-PF had at least three double candidates in Chegutu RDC (Ward 19 and 22) and Pfura RDC (Ward Two.) People’s Rainbow Coalition led by Dr Joice Mujuru got one ward in Chipinge RDC (ward25.)
