'We'll Show Mnangagwa The Power That People Have,' Says Chamisa As He Vows Mass Protests Against Zim Govt

Zimbabwean opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has reportedly said that his party is planning mass protests to force President Emmerson Mnangagwa out of power.

According to The Standard newspaper, Chamisa said this during his party's 19th anniversary celebrations in Harare over the weekend.

"We are going to be organising ourselves internally, then we go to programmes that we want to do throughout the country from next week.
"I will be going to every area where I will be setting out the plan, something big in this country — hold your cards on the intended march to State House from this venue.

"… We will show Mnangagwa the power that people have," Chamisa was quoted as saying.

AFP reported on Saturday that Chamisa vowed to continue his push to take power after disputed elections in which he lost to Emmerson Mnangagwa in July.

<--adsense-->"We want to claim the victory of the people. We must lead this country. We won the election on 30 July but they were stolen," said Chamisa in a speech to thousands supporters

"Mnangagwa we don't acknowledge him because he didn't win the elections," he said.

The MDC's anniversary rally which was banned several times by police citing a cholera outbreak which killed at least 50 people was given the go-ahead last week.

Chamisa, 40, has called for a transitional government to resolve the worsening economic and political crisis engulfing the country.

"Because we have not resolved the political issues our economy cannot perform. The economy is in a shambles," he said.

"The economy is a reflection of politics that is not in proper shape. We have solutions to the economic crisis," he added.

Zimbabwe has been facing foreign currency shortages in recent weeks that have sparked an economic crisis with supplies of fuel, food and pharmaceuticals drying up.
