Cameroon Separatists Kill Soldier In Restive NW Region

At least one soldier was killed an several others wounded on Tuesday Cameroon security forces engaged in a fierce battle with separatists in the locality of Ngarum, North West region of Cameroon, the army has said.


Lieutantant Ekane Divine Epie of the 52nd motorised infantry batallion was shot dead by fighters as the army launched an assault early Wednesday morning on two separatist camps in Ngarum, Ndu sub division, ssecurity sources said.

The army said it succeeded in destroying the camps while freeing 16 hostages amongst whom three were women and six were children.

At least sixteen separatist fighters were killed while several weapons, amunition and food items were also seized from the separatist camps during the assault.
The fightings in the area has forced many residents to flee their homes into the bushes for safety as Ndu and Ngarum remain heavily militarised with the shootings extending late into the evening.

The atmosphere remains tense in the area as some ressidents who have stayed behind confirmed troops haad arrived the area late in the evening for reinforcement.
