Video: AFM President Madziyire Vows To Approach High Court After Pastors Pass Vote Of No Confidence
Pastors of the troubled church, the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM) led by AFM deputy president Rev.
Cossum Chiangwa passed a vote of no confidence in AFM president Dr Aspher Madziyire, church elder and prominent lawyer Tawanda Nyambirai, general secretary Reverend Amon Madawo, and national administrator Pastor Munyaradzi Shumba. The motion was passed at the church’s national workers council held on Saturday at Rufaro Conference Centre in Masvingo.
The church will now be run by elders until elections are held in October. Announcing the change in leadership, AFM wrote on its social media page,
President: Rev C. Chiangwa
Deputy: Rev A. Chinyemba
Secretary: N. Nhira
Administrator: Elder Sebata
However, deposed President Aspher Madziyire is not taking this lying down and has vowed to approach the High Court to have the elections nullified. Madziyire is arguing that the meeting was illegal. Madziyire has also set dates for the presidential election which means that at the moment there are two AFMs, one following Rev. Chiangwa and another following Madziyire. Speaking to H-Metro, Madawo said,
The national elections shall be held on November 3, 2018. We would also want to make an announcement to all our AFM members that they should be careful and desist from relying on messages that are going viral on social media about our church.
We don’t run the church or make decisions and resolutions on social media.
